Room 18: Orienteering Excellence!

Orienteering
Excitement
Hits SPS!

Kevisharne & Sione run to find clues.
The kindly folk from Auckland Orienteering have returned in 2013 to provide the students of Room 18 with another fantastic learning experience.

Students learn how to read maps, find the correction direction and interact with others in a new situation.

Orienteering forces the students to use most of their Key Competencies: thinking, relating to others, managing self.
The students had to navigate a course around SPS and check off clues on their maps to find success.

Anahere & Pornphan take gold after finding all the clues first.

Room 18 is once again making it happen!

Room 18: Squash Festival

Room 18 Change Festival:
The Squash Encounter
Most Room 18 students had never heard of the fast-paced game of squash. Most had never even seen it even on a sports highlight reel.

Starr and Elijah battle it out on the court
But when it was offered to the Room 18 students as both a sporting and learning experience, they took the opportunity like falcons to the sky; soaring and riding the blue air of success!

The students were grateful to Auckland Squash for the experience, and many took up the offer of a free introduction to the game at the Panmure Squash Club.

Room 18: Time for Change

Time for Change!

Otolose brainstorms about change.
Room 18 have taken to their new Inquiry focus of 'Change' like ducks to water! They are examining how change affects their lives and how they can also understand the world and society around them.

The students are examining what change is and how it is everywhere.

Room 18 will be making a class short film later in the term, entirely composed of their own ideas; using skills that they will learn in the coming weeks.  They will be able to answer the question, "How can I tell a story about change through film?'

Room 18 looks forward to a creative and constructive Term 3!
